Northern Michigan Skaters, Sadistic Sweethearts Roller Derby & Local Kewadin Skaters meet up at MTSP for our first skatepark meet-up of the 2022 season!

WOW! This past week was extremely fun and exhausting in the best way possible! So much to recap but one thing is for sure, if you enjoy being on wheels, spending time with friends & family, and petting adorable puppies, this is the group for you! We participated in 4 events this week and we're scheduling more every day! Be sure to subscribe below for future updates!

Our week of events started at Pearl's New Orleans Kitchen in Elk Rapids on Thursday April 28th. Pearl's was awesome! They provided space in their establishment, delicious food, and the staff was just lovely! The best thing about our Pearl's fundraiser is they did all the work for us! We made some wonderful connections at this happy hour event along with bringing in just over $350 for MTSP! We look forward to doing another event with them in the future.

Friday night we went to Kalkaska for "Skate it off" a family friendly event they host every other Friday indoors at the Kalkaska Kaliseum. If you have roller skates or roller blades bring them as they have been renting out all their skates early on into the event. I highly recommend attending these events with your family. They play fun roller rink games like 4 corners, races, and other themed skates throughout the event. Check our their facebook page for more details!

Our booth at the Indigenous youth & friends arts & craft fair

Then Saturday we spend the day at the Indigenous youth & friends arts and craft fair at the Elk Rapids High School. If you didn't make it out there was wonderful variety of vendors and most every vendor had unique products to sell! We had (and still have some) Strawberry succulent planters, 3D Lego inspired flower bouquets, and cat butt phone stands we're selling to raise funds. These items were donated by Northland Pulp. We received just shy of $2k in donations at this event thank you in large part to Sheri Reid Grant at Art & Connection (the blue and green building in Elk Rapids. If you are interested in any of the products mentioned above, send us an email at miltontwpskatepark@gmail.com and we'll get them to you!

Last but certainly not least, we had our first meetup on location at MTSP (see photo at top of this article)! Folks from Northern Michigan Skaters, Sadistic Sweethearts Roller Derby, and other local youths from Kewadin area came down to shred the park! We talked about ways to relocate our donated halfpipe to the park, worked on tricks and during breaks got puppy hugs and kisses! We will be hosting these meetups every 2 weeks with our next one being scheduled Saturday May 21st from 11-3pm.

Thank you to those who were able to make it and to those who couldn't but took the time to share, like, and help us create awareness for our cause. Writing these updates is very rewarding and I look forward to posting these updates weekly!

So, what's next you ask? Check out our calendar of events for scheduled skatepark meetups, volunteer efforts, and more! Get your family, apply some sun screen and meet us at the park!
